Established in 1953, Grandview Children's Centre is the only Children’s Treatment Centre in Durham Region providing life-changing outpatient treatment, rehabilitation services and more to children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs and their families. The current demand for Grandview’s programs and services has reached 10,000 kids per year with over 3,900 on a growing wait list.
Durham Region is one of the fastest growing areas in Ontario. The child and youth population in the Grandview Kids catchment is expected to drastically increase over the next 20 years, adding roughly 40,000 more children in the Grandview Kids catchment than there are today.
As a result of the growing population, Grandview Kids has significantly outgrown its current facility. Originally, Grandview Kids’ Oshawa headquarters was built in 1983 and designed to accommodate a maximum of 400 children. As of 2018, the need has risen to over 10,000 children with 65,000 child, youth and family visits to the main facility in Oshawa and five satellite sites.
To meet the current and future demand for Grandview’s young clients in the Durham Region, a new Grandview home will be built in Ajax, ensuring every Grandview kid is living life to their full potential. The new facility will be located on Harwood Avenue North between Rossland Road and Taunton Road in Ajax.
The Grandview Children’s Foundation has committed to raising a total of $20 million dollars to support the new site in Ajax and services for the Centre’s children, youth and families.
Public sector commitments are now in place for the new Grandview at the provincial and federal levels. Thanks to the generous support of our community of donors through the Believe Campaign, including the Region of Durham, our municipalities, and caring individuals and groups, Grandview Kids is better prepared to meet the growing demand for our programs and services in our region.
The Foundation is focused on the final $5 million left to raise through our community campaign. Will you help? So much is possible when we come together as a caring community.READ MOREDonate Now
