Grandview Kids Believe Campaign

Built in 1983, Grandview Kids is the only Children’s Treatment Centre in Durham Region providing life-changing outpatient treatment, rehabilitation services and more to children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs and their families. The current demand for Grandview’s programs and services has reached 10,000 kids per year with over 3,300 on a growing wait list.

Durham Region is one of the fastest growing areas in Ontario. The child and youth population in the Grandview Kids catchment is expected to drastically increase over the next 20 years, adding roughly 40,000 more children in the Grandview Kids catchment than there are today.

As a result of the growing population, Grandview Kids has significantly outgrown its current facility. Originally, Grandview Kids’ Oshawa headquarters was built in 1983 and designed to accommodate a maximum of 400 children. As of 2018, the need has risen to over 10,000 children with 65,000 child, youth and family visits to the main facility in Oshawa and five satellite sites. This number is projected to increase to over 91,700 visits within the next 10 years.

To meet the current and future demand for Grandview’s young clients in the Durham Region, a new Grandview home will be built in Ajax, ensuring every Grandview kid is living life to their full potential. The new facility is expected to be open in the autumn of 2022, located on Harwood Avenue North between Rossland Road and Taunton Road in Ajax. Community-based locations in Bowmanville, Whitby, Port Perry, and Oshawa will remain open once the new facility is built.

The Grandview Children`s Foundation is committed to raising a total of $20 million dollars to support the new site in Ajax and services for the Centre`s children, youth and families. The province, region and municipalities have all contributed to the of costs for the new facility and to date the Foundation has raised $14.6 million towards its overall goal to support the new building and services to local families.

As we are well on our way to reaching our financial goal for the building, we are requesting funding during the campaign to support access to our services at the new site.  While the new building will give Grandview Children’s Centre the crucial space they need to help families in Durham region for the next generation, Grandview Kids is also committed to reducing wait times and ensuring a timely delivery of services needed by each unique young client.  With your help, we will ensure that in Grandview’s new home the Centre can grow its high-demand services to meet the expanding need.

We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you for the Believe Campaign to help Durham Region’s children reach their greatest potential now and for the next generation. It is only with dedicated community investors that we will be able to reach our goals and help empower our kids to succeed.
